In São Pedro do Sul, the former Grande Hotel Lisboa was transformed into the Grande Hotel Thermas. Exotic inspirations and glamour are common themes throughout the project, which offers 153 rooms and aims to give thermalism a more contemporary and even avant-garde approach.
Although hydrotherapy in the Almopia area likely dates back to Antiquity, Loutra's development as a spa town began after 1913. The region has a long history, having been part of the Ancient Kingdom of Macedonia, the First Bulgarian Empire, the Byzantine Empire, and the Ottoman Empire, serving as a key exchange hub between Greece and Turkey.
The construction of Hotel Avra in 1924 marked a turning point for Loutra Pozar, attracting visitors with its mild climate and healing waters. The spa town continued to grow, particularly during the 1950s and 1960s, alongside the rise of Greek tourism.
Few things can be more invigorating than standing under the 20m high natural thermal waterfall which forms a small lake among the rock and lush vegetation. One of those things not to be missed in your visit to Loutra Pozar!
