In São Pedro do Sul, the former Grande Hotel Lisboa was transformed into the Grande Hotel Thermas. Exotic inspirations and glamour are common themes throughout the project, which offers 153 rooms and aims to give thermalism a more contemporary and even avant-garde approach.
The healing “waters of immortality” in Tskaltubo have been known since the 7th-9th centuries. From the 18th century, researchers began documenting the springs' healing properties, including the Berlin Society of Friends of Natural Science (1782).
By 1920, Tskaltubo was officially declared a medical spa resort, gaining city status in 1953. The town’s Soviet-era Golden Age is linked to Joseph Stalin, one of its most famous visitors. Tourists can still visit the private pool where Stalin bathed.
Tskaltubo remains popular for its therapeutic waters, stunning built heritage, and caves, which offer a dust-free atmosphere for health benefits. With World Bank investment, spa facilities are being restored to attract more visitors, reinforcing the town’s role in Georgia’s first National Tourism Strategy.
The unique radon-carbonated waters are Tskaltubo’s major mineral resource.
They emerge at a comfortable temperature for bathing (35ºC), allowing them to be directly transferred from springs to the baths without cooling or heating.
